Beijing Social Work Development Center for Facilitators

Beijing Social Work Development Center for Facilitators (Beijing Facilitators) is an AAAAA level NGO registered with Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. It is among the first grassroots nonprofit organizations dedicated to social work in China. With the guiding principle of “Effecting Change through Cooperation, and Helping People Help Themselves”, we have combined service innovation, research and advocacy, as well as professional support to grassroots NGOs in our service strategy to work with the underprivileged to empower them to help others, improve local social work services and explore development of local NGOs. We work with our vision in mind that each and every one can embrace the dignity that is rightfully hers or his, and to live her or his life with a sense of freedom.

Since 2003, Beijing Facilitators has provided services to over 705,000 people, including migrants and their children who live in difficulties. We have trained over 3,592 volunteers, many of whom are migrant workers, with the innovative service model to help people help themselves. This experience has also been the basis for organizing more than 50 research projects, working on drafting of national social work related standards and policies, hosting national forums and publishing nine books. It is through this work, that we have formed a social work advocacy model that promotes dialogue based on equality. Beijing Facilitators has led training for government officials, social workers, volunteers and social organization leaders around the country.

The service model developed by Beijing Facilitators has been replicated with great success in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, the Shandong Peninsula and in Middle China, to build a network of five local NGOs, offering support to thousands of NGOs. This has led to a mechanism that combines professional social workers, NGOs, communities and enterprises in services.

Beijing Facilitators has been awarded Lam Woo Distinguished Social Work Award by Peking University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University twice, China Social Innovation Award by the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau of China, Excellent Women’s Team by All China Women’s Federation, Pilot NGO for Beijing by Civil Affairs Bureau of Beijing, Top Ten Volunteer Model Team, National Pilot Social Work NGO, Top 100 National Social Work Service Organization. Social workers of Beijing Facilitators have also received titles including National Social Work Leadership, Best Social Workers of China and Top Ten Excellent Social Worker of China.
